Everything about Shellac and its correct application
Shellac is now a staple in every professional nail salon. No wonder: this popular beauty trend promises a flawless, long-lasting manicure. But what exactly is Shellac, and what should you keep in mind when applying it? Find out now.
What is Shellac?
Today, when we talk about Shellac, we're referring to a mixture of nail polish and gel that provides an exceptionally long-lasting manicure. Essentially, it's a permanent polish that's cured under an LED/UV lamp. With proper application and professional products, Shellac can easily last up to four weeks on the nails. To remove the manicure, a special remover is used.
The advantages at a glance:
Are you considering whether Shellac would be a good option for your nails? Perhaps its numerous advantages will convince you:
natural result
minimal stress on the natural nail
No thick build-up like with gel nails.
long shelf life of up to four weeks
quick application and fast drying
no scratches, no chipping
quick and easy removal
How is Shellac applied?
Just like gel nails, a Shellac manicure consists of several steps. First, you apply the Shellac Base + Top coat. This is followed by the color coat and then the top coat to seal the nails and give them an attractive shine. After each coat, the freshly painted nails must be cured under a UV or LED lamp. Finally, the polish is firmly bonded to the nail. The natural-looking result lasts up to four weeks without you having to worry about scratches or chipping in the meantime.
How are Shellac nails removed?
To remove a Shellac manicure, you'll need a special remover. Soak your nails in the solution for at least ten minutes; alternatively, you can wrap them with soaked pads. Afterwards, gently remove the polish with a rosewood stick or a nail pusher.
Why is Shellac a popular alternative to gel nails?
While gel nails were the ultimate beauty trend a few years ago, Shellac manicures are now also very popular. This is due to the numerous advantages that Shellac nails offer: Firstly, it is a highly advanced product that is very well tolerated by your nails. The treatment is also gentle. When removing gel nails, the artificial nail is filed off, but with a Shellac manicure, only the polish is removed. This means that no additional filing of the nail plate is required.
Shellac nails are not only gentler on your natural nails, but both application and removal are also significantly easier. No tips are used, and removal requires only a solvent-based solution. Therefore, even beginners can easily perform a Shellac manicure at home.
Shellac nails also look more natural than gel nails because the polish layer is more subtle and the natural nail isn't extended. A shellac manicure is therefore ideal if you want beautiful, well-groomed, and practical nails for everyday life.
Shellac nails and gel nails don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. It's perfectly possible to apply Shellac nail polish instead of colored gel to gel or acrylic nails.
Can I do a Shellac manicure at home?
If you'd like to have Shellac nails, you don't necessarily need to go to a nail salon. You can order Shellac nail polishes, UV and LED lamps, and all the necessary accessories directly from us. However, you should have a little patience and skill if you want to do your own nails. Practice makes perfect! Even as a beginner, you can create beautiful nails with Shellac nail polish.
Here's how to achieve a successful Shellac manicure at home, step by step:
Step 1: Preparation
Before you begin the actual Shellac manicure, you should prepare your nails properly. Remove any old nail polish and push back your cuticles with a rosewood stick. If you're experienced, you can remove your cuticles with cuticle nippers. Finally, file your nails into the desired shape and gently buff the top layer of the nail plate.
Step 2: The base
Apply the Shellac Base Coat and cure it under a UV or LED lamp. Make sure you don't apply the material over the edges of the nails.
Step 3: The color
Paint your nails with a Shellac nail polish of your choice and cure the color layer under a UV or LED lamp. You can find a wide selection of colors directly in our online shop.
Step 4: Sealing
Now you seal the shellac color layer with a shellac top coat. This also needs to be cured under the lamp.
Step 5: Removing the sweat layer
Finally, carefully remove the sweat layer (if present!) with a lint-free wipe and cleaner.
